The pharmaceutical industry stands at a pivotal moment in its journey toward sustainability, and two key players are leading the charge: Alliance to Zero and CPHI.

Alliance to Zero is a non-profit membership association committed to accelerating the transition of the pharmaceutical and biotech supply chain to net zero emissions. By fostering collaboration across the industry, the Alliance empowers stakeholders to adopt sustainable practices and meet evolving regulatory and environmental standard

CPHI, organised by Informa Markets, is the world’s largest pharmaceutical event platform, connecting industry leaders, innovators, and changemakers across the globe. Informa’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its strategic partnerships and event programming, which increasingly focus on environmental responsibility and long-term impact.

Together, we’ve built a partnership that goes beyond words. Through workshops, panel discussions, and shared expertise, we’re creating spaces where sustainability becomes actionable. We’re not just talking about the future—we’re building it.

At CPHI Milan 2024, our collaboration came to life through a hands-on workshop titled: “Speak the Same Language: Jumpstart Your Understanding of a Sustainable Supply Chain.”

Held on October 8th, this workshop was designed to empower pharma professionals with the tools and insights needed to drive sustainability within their organizations. The session focused on the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and how it can be applied to decarbonize supply chains—particularly in the context of injection devices.

The term “jumpstart” was chosen deliberately. Our goal was to fast-track participants’ understanding of sustainability, offering a structured, no-nonsense introduction that would allow them to immediately apply what they learned. Attendees left with a clearer grasp of the challenges and opportunities in transitioning to net zero, and with actionable strategies to implement in their own roles.

“We gave pharma professionals the tools to act—attendees left ready to decarbonize their products and processes,” said Marwin Krull, Vice President of the Alliance to Zero.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of cross-functional collaboration. By bringing together experts and stakeholders from across the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, we created a space for dialogue, innovation, and shared learning. The energy in the room was palpable—proof that the industry is ready to move forward together.

As we look ahead to CPHI Frankfurt, taking place 28-30 October 2025, our collaboration continues to evolve. This year, Alliance to Zero will participate in a high-impact panel discussion focused on sustainability in pharma, as part of the Sustainable Futures track.

The panel will feature leading voices from across the industry, including experts in packaging innovation, supply chain transformation, and environmental strategy. Topics will include the role of circular economy principles, the integration of sustainability into product development, and the importance of supplier engagement in achieving net zero goals.

This event promises to be a milestone in our journey, offering a platform to share insights, challenge assumptions, and inspire action. It’s also an opportunity to showcase the progress we’ve made—and the road ahead.

Our partnership with CPHI is built on shared values and a common mission: to make sustainability a core pillar of the pharmaceutical industry. From Milan to Frankfurt and beyond, we are committed to creating meaningful, lasting change.

“Our work with Alliance to Zero reflects a shared commitment to progress. Together, we’re building a foundation for long-term impact and industry-wide transformation,” said Silvia Forroova, the Founder of the CPHI Sustainability Collective and Director of Partnerships and Sustainability at Informa Markets, highlighting the depth and future-focused nature of the collaboration.

And as we continue to collaborate, educate, and innovate, we remain confident in the strength and longevity of our relationship. The journey to net zero is complex, but with trusted partners by our side, we are taking the challenge.
